ADOC 2022 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT
Statement from the
General Manager
MR. KOJI UENO
Representative & General Manager
ADOC
Welcome to the twelfth edition of ADOC’s Sustainability Report, outlining ADOC’s progress and providing an outlook
on how we plan to build on our sustainability efforts over the coming years.
The year 2022 has presented challenges such as the continuance of COVID-19, the conflicts in Ukraine and the high
instability of oil prices. However, we are pleased to have maintained safe and stable operations whilst sustaining production.
The past year also saw the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and UAE. This was celebrated as a
‘Japan day’ event, arranged by the embassy of Japan. This provided an opportunity to engage with our employees and
external stakeholders, including students of our Japanese Language Teaching Program (JLTP), creating a diverse and
inclusive environment for employees and a positive lasting impact on the communities in which we operate.
Employee safety is our top priority. I am happy that our continued efforts towards employee and contractor health &
safety have resulted in zero Lost Time Injuries (LTIs), an improvement since 2021. We managed offshore COVID ‘clusters’
in a safe and efficient manner recording zero deaths due to COVID-19 in ADOC operations. We closely adhere to
the plan-do-check-act cycle and review health, safety and environment (HSE) performance through patrols and audits
on-site. This provides an opportunity for continuous improvement, ensuring efficiencies in our routine operations whilst
contributing to the long-term success of our organization.
The highly unstable nature of oil prices and strict enforcement of environmental regulations are challenges that the oil
and gas sector is facing. We are committed to delivering efficiency in our day-to-day operations and have been able to
maintain production whilst meeting all our short-term targets, despite these challenges. We review the business plan
annually so that the impact on the environment, economy and people is minimal in principle, allowing us to adapt to new
uncertainties that may arise whilst we progress our longer-term strategies.
We at ADOC are committed to operating with the highest standard of ethical business practice at all levels of our
organization, bound by rigorous compliance and governance. Acting with fairness, honesty and integrity is important
to ADOC’s business. We continue to support the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, prohibiting
discrimination and forced labor, and ensure that our supply chain follows the same.
In line with the UAE Net Zero 2050 strategic initiative, we remain focused on researching innovative decarbonization
strategies which will complement our existing zero flaring policy and gas injection activities. One strategy we have been
exploring is the replacement of our offshore gas turbine generators with a greener alternative. Possibilities we are
considering include PV Solar or a submarine cable connecting offshore power to onshore power. In 2022, we launched a
blue-carbon study to investigate the gradual build-up time of blue-carbon storage capacity in Mubarraz island. We were
able to showcase our environmental initiatives and progress at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and
Conference (ADIPEC).
In closing, I would like to express my appreciation to all our stakeholders who have supported and worked with us in
achieving what we have so far as we look forward to building on the successes of 2022 and moving towards a more
sustainable future.
